Alex Tew has to pay for college.

In the past five weeks, he’s done it; seven times over. He had the idea of setting up The Million Dollar Homepage, a blank grid with 10,000 10×10 pixel squares, for sale at the low cost of $1 per pixel.

It’s a ridiculous idea, and it should not work; but it does. He saw the quirky-curious nature of mankind, and created a wild decopage of advertising, which has dramatically raised the sales at several online businesses. Ads are guaranteed to run at least 5 years.

This is an idea that can only work once. Though as soon as I saw it, I knew clones would start popping up… Sure enough, Pixel Ads Page lists over 40 clones, several with almost exact copies of the FAQ, but you know they will never match the original.

Kudos to you, Alex. I hope you sell all 1,000,000 pixels. Enjoy the cash.

The quote of the day today (see the upper-right corner of my page) came up as “A picture is worth a thousand words” The funny thing is, it’s credited to Napoleon Bonaparte. That just seems odd to me, but Wikipedia seconds the fact.
